FUNCTIONS
Conduct research and technology transfer in the fields of land management and sustainable land use.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conducting research and forecasting changes in the physical and chemical properties of soils, as well as soil fertility dynamics, to support the development of strategies for rational and sustainable land use.
• Developing solutions for the restoration, stabilization, and enhancement of soil fertility, thereby promoting the efficient conservation and utilization of soil and water resources.
• Developing and transferring technologies and technical protocols for land management and utilization to support sustainable agricultural and forestry production.• Providing scientific consultancy and professional training in the fields of soil fertility and land use management.
• Ensuring the effective management and utilization of human resources, facilities, equipment, and financial resources in accordance with applicable regulations and legal provisions.

History
• 1977 – 2004: Department of Soil Improvement.
• 2004 – 2006: Land Use Research Division.
• 2006 – Present: Department of Land Use.
Achievement
Prior to 1999
• Research on soil toxicity and reclamation measures for acid sulfate and saline soils in northern Vietnam.
• Studies on the rehabilitation of degraded red-yellow ferralitic soils and degraded basaltic soils in the Central Highlands.
• Development of intensive cultivation techniques for industrial crops and fruit trees.
• Assessment of soil quality and land suitability for coffee, citrus, mulberry, and rice cultivation in the Central Highlands and other regions, including Nghe An and Hoa Binh provinces.
• Investigation of soil physical and soil-water properties in tea-, mulberry-, coffee-, and rubber-growing areas.
From 2000 to the Present
• Development of soil erosion control technologies and sustainable management practices for sloping lands.
• Research on soil improvement, nutrient management, and integrated crop management across different agroecological zones.
• Studies on the rehabilitation and sustainable utilization of coastal sandy soils in the semi-arid South Central Coast region.
• Assessment of soil quality and land suitability for major crops, including coffee, citrus, rice, maize, and medicinal plants.
• Evaluation of the impacts of craft village activities, industrial zones, and urban waste on agricultural soil environments.
• Research on wastewater reuse for rice-based cropping systems in northern Vietnam.
