FUNCTIONS

The Center for Soil, Fertilizer and Environment Research for the Central Highlands is a public scientific institution responsible for conducting research and technology transfer in the fields of soils, fertilizers, and agricultural and rural environment to support sustainable agricultural development in the Central Highlands and South Central Coastal regions of Vietnam.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conducting soil surveys and evaluating soil fertility and land resources, as well as developing soil maps and land-use plans for the Central Highlands and South Central Coastal regions.

2. Researching the efficient use of fertilizers, soil amendments, and cropping systems adapted to the agroecological conditions of the Central Highlands and South Central Coast.

3. Producing, testing, and assessing the quality of fertilizers and agrochemical products.

4. Investigating soil environmental conditions, providing assessments of soil quality and environmental status, and forecasting changes in soil environments to support policy development and the formulation of appropriate management and remediation strategies.

5. Conducting soil environmental monitoring in the Central Highlands and South Central Coastal regions.

6. Promoting international cooperation in scientific research and technological applications related to soils, fertilizers, and soil environment.

7. Providing training, scientific consultancy, and technical cooperation with domestic organizations in the fields of soil science, fertilizers, and soil environment.

8. Ensuring the effective management and utilization of human resources, facilities, equipment, and financial resources in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

History

• 1987 - 2005: Central Highlands Soil Research Station (established under Decision No. 278 NN-TCCB/QĐ dated 21 September 1987). 

• 2005 - 2006: Central Highlands Soil Research Center (established under Decision No. 2349/QĐ-BNN-TCCB dated 9 September 2005).

• 2006 - Present: Research Center for Highland Soils, Fertilizers & Environment (established under Decision No. 522/QĐ/KHNN-TCCB dated 15 June 2006).

Achievement

SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTIONS

• Conducted research and developed management practices for maintaining and improving the fertility of basaltic and sloping soils under various cropping systems in the Central Highlands.

• Investigated the roles of essential plant nutrients and their interactions with different soil types and cropping systems in the region.

• Evaluated fertilizer performance and developed fertilizer recommendations and management practices to enhance nutrient use efficiency for major crops in the Central Highlands.

• Developed land suitability classification maps for rubber cultivation across the Central Highlands provinces.

• Conducted land suitability assessments to support rational crop planning and agricultural land-use optimization in several localities of Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces.

• Established demonstration models for the application of advanced technologies in soil management and fertilizer use throughout the Central Highlands.

• Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister of Vietnam (1998).

• Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (1997 and 2004).

• Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam National Coffee Corporation (1997).

• Third-Class Labor Order awarded by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (2013).
