FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Center conducts research and provides scientific and technological services in the fields of soil resources, fertilizers, and soil environment in Southern Vietnam.

 

Its major responsibilities include:

1. Conducting research aimed at improving the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils.

2. Identifying factors limiting crop productivity and developing appropriate nutrient management strategies for crops grown in the Northern Midland region.

3. Investigating cropping systems and developing suitable intensive cultivation technologies adapted to the agroecological conditions of the Northern Midlands.

4. Providing scientific consultation and collaborating with research institutions, governmental agencies, and local authorities in agricultural extension activities to facilitate the transfer of new technologies into agricultural production.

5. Promoting scientific and technical cooperation with national and international research organizations.

6. Establishing partnerships for the production of fertilizers and high-quality crop varieties to support agricultural development..

7. Providing scientific and technological consultancy and technical services for agricultural production.

8. Ensuring the effective management and utilization of human resources, facilities, land resources, equipment, and financial resources in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

 

History

• 1964 - 1966: Central Green Manure Seed Multiplication Station under the Department of Crop Production.

• 1966 - 1971: Ha Bac Experimental Station for Degraded Soil Reclamation under the Department of Land Management.

• 1971 - 2006: Ha Bac Experimental Station for Degraded Soil Reclamation under the Soils and Fertilizers Research Institute.

• 2006 - Present: Center for Soil and Fertilizer Research for the Northern Midland Region, Soils and Fertilizers Research Institute.

Achievement

SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTIONS

• Conducted long-term studies on improving the physical and chemical properties and enhancing the fertility of degraded grey soils.

• Promoted large-scale soil improvement programs, including land leveling, increased application of organic fertilizers, and the use of leguminous crops for soil restoration.

• Developed integrated fertilizer recommendations and efficient cropping patterns adapted to the Northern Midland region.

• Provided technical guidance on balanced fertilization practices and the adoption of high-yielding crop varieties.

• Conducted fertilizer trials for different cropping systems and crop rotation schemes.

• Developed nutrient management strategies for major crops, particularly rice and maize.

• Investigated the effects of fertilizers and the incorporation of agricultural residues on crop productivity, product quality, and soil fertility improvement in degraded soils.

• Established demonstration models to evaluate the economic performance of major crops cultivated on degraded soils.

• Developed high-efficiency three- and four-crop annual production systems through innovative crop rotation patterns.

• Second-Class Labor Order awarded by the Lao People's Democratic Republic (2012).

• Third-Class Labor Order awarded by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1980).

• Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister of Vietnam (1999).

• Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (2003).

• Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (2005).

• Emulation Flag Award presented by the Bac Giang Provincial Federation of Labour (2003).
