International workshop on Sustainable management of coffee plantations in Asia
On November 13-14, The Soils and Fertilizers Research Institute (SFRI) organized a workshop entitled “Sustainable management of coffee plantations in Asia (India, Thailand, Vietnam)”, sponsored by RPP-SELTAR project from the Institute for Research and Development (IRD) – France. The major objective of this workshop was to share experiences on coffee production/cultivation, especially between research communities among three Asian countries, and to prepare with IRD and CIRAD French research institutes a project proposal to be submitted to potential donors.
The meeting was attended by participants from India, Thailand, Vietnam and France. The participants came from Universities; research Institutes, private companies and consultants from service companies.
During the first day of workshop, the meeting was officially opened by SFRI’s Director and by representatives from CIRAD, IRD, SELTAR project, SFRI and VAAs. Participants from India and Thailand also provided overviews on coffee cultivation in focusing on the different coffee crop problems that need to be overcomed urgently.
This discussion was very useful to build up concept notes during the second day.
