On May 9, 2023, the Soils and Fertilizers Institute had a meeting with Mr. Dominique Laffly - Scientific Counselor of the French Embassy in Vietnam, and Professor of Geography at the University of Toulouse, France with deep expertise in Geographic Information Systems.
Participating in the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Tien - Director; Mrs. Le Thi My Hao - Head of Department of Soil Genesis and Classification and researchers interested in geographic information systems mapping & spatial analysis.
Speaking at the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Minh Tien thanked Professor and thanked the French Embassy in Vietnam for actively supporting Vietnam in the past time.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Minh Tien briefly introduced to Professor Dominique Laffly about the scientific research activities of the Soils and Fertilizers Institute and expressed his wish that the two sides would have more cooperation in the field of training and research, especially is in the field of remote sensing, climate change, environment as well as a research project between the the Soils and Fertilizers Institute and French universities and research institutions.

A number of new key research topics about climate change, carbon storage, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, application of remote sensing technology to build a map correctly, method of building a soil information database, etc. in the coming time were also discussed.

On behalf of the Embassy, Professor Dominique Laffly thanked the Institute for the warm welcome and expressed her delight at the achievements that the SFI has achieved over the years; affirming the important role of the Institute's research in the development of Vietnam's agricultural sector. In addition, the professor also shared the PhD and Master's scholarship programs that the Embassy is currently managing and hopes that more researchers of the SFI will participate in this program in the near future.
